The Evening

A Night to Remember

It was great to see many of the Montserrat Events volunteers come together for the end of season wrap-up social evening, held at Caffe Lee - Cafe/Bar. The night featured an open bar for the majority of the evening and an 'American Supper' style spread for all to enjoy.

The volunteers heard from Jonathan, who gave a synopsis of the year's events, together with a business update and exciting plans for 2025. He also thanked all the volunteers for their support and hard work, explaining how integral they are to delivering every event.

The evening saw the presentation of the first ever Smile Awards to three worthy winners - a milestone moment for the Montserrat family. That's Montserrat finished for 2024 and what a great year of events we have delivered. We now look forward to 2025 with some exciting news to be announced soon.

Kate Webb

Chosen by fellow volunteers for embodying the spirit of Montserrat, inspiring others through positivity and commitment.

"I am a volunteer at Montserrat Events and every time I take part at an event, everyone is super welcoming and brings a positive energy which makes my experience more enjoyable. The events are well organised, structured and fun and the camaraderie within the team is great. Being part of Montserrat has given me a sense of accomplishment, pride and self-confidence. In the 3 years that I have been volunteering, I have developed new skills and gained valuable experience. Everyone is helpful, inspiring and encourages me to voice my ideas and suggestions. There's nothing more rewarding than giving back to your community and making a difference in people's lives which I believe embodies what Montserrat does best."

Get Involved

Join Our Crew

Come and be part of our event crew. We have many local residents who are already helping with the events but there's always room for more to come and be part of the team.

Our Event Crew - known as 'makers/helpers/volunteers' - play a vital role in helping to create a successful day for everyone involved. Volunteering at an event is a fun and rewarding time out. It's a great way to meet other people and be part of a fantastic team. It is fun and flexible and just a few hours can make a huge difference.

At our events we need skills such as planning, organisation, operational and marshalling amongst others. We hold planning and wrap-up meetings where the team comes together to share ideas, feedback and thoughts on how best to deliver the events. More importantly, these meetings provide a social setting to come together and make new friendships.

In return, you will be part of a fantastic team who have fun and an enthusiastic sense of work ethic delivering the smile for the community.

We're Looking For Volunteers Who:

  • Have lots of energy and enthusiasm.
  • Have great communication and people skills.
  • Can work well as part of a team and on their own.
  • Are prepared to volunteer outside and be on their feet for long periods of time.
  • Are flexible and willing to volunteer in different roles, as required.
  • Are 18+ years old (or have parental/guardian consent).

In May 2024 we introduced our Volunteer Charter - a commitment to supporting every volunteer who joins our team.

Introduced May 2024

The Volunteer Charter

Volunteers are an important and valued part of the Montserrat Events team. We hope that you enjoy volunteering with us. It's all about delivering the smile. This agreement tells you what you can expect from us, and what we hope from you.

We Will:

  • Introduce you to how the organisation works and your role in it, and provide any training you need.
  • Provide regular meetings with a main point of contact so you can check understanding, get feedback and pass on feedback gathered through your volunteering.
  • Respect your skills, dignity and individual wishes and do our best to meet them.
  • Consult with you and keep you informed of possible changes within the organisation.
  • Provide a safe workplace.
  • Ensure volunteering is carried out in conjunction with the provided volunteer handbook.

As a Volunteer, I Will:

  • Work reliably to the best of your ability, and give as much warning as possible whenever you cannot volunteer when expected.
  • Work within the agreed scope and terms of the role and its stated guidelines and boundaries.
  • Follow rules and procedures, including health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding and confidentiality.
  • Work in partnership with other volunteers and event stakeholders.

Note: this Charter Document is in honour only and is not intended to be a legally binding contract of employment.

Monthly Meetings

Planning Starts in January

We start again in January with our monthly planning and volunteer meetings, held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Come and meet the team, share your ideas, and help shape the next season of events. There's always room for fresh faces and new energy.
